About the xSIID implant:
The xSIID is a next generation injectable NFC implant which leverages the SIID, an innovative module design from the Sweden-based design agency DSruptive. The module has an LED indicator connected to the NTAG I2C chip, giving users clear feedback when the chip is being activated and ensuring the implant is always easy to locate.
Warning: The xSIID implants has undergone multiple quality checks and tests during manufacture but has not been certified by any government regulatory agency for implantation or use inside the human body. The use of this device is strictly at your own risk.
xSIID implant technical specifications:
- 13.56 MHz ISO14443A & NFC Type 2 complaint NTAG I2C RFID chipset
- Full datasheet for the NXP NTAG I2C RFID/NFC chip
- 7-byte UID and 1912 bytes of user read/write memory
- 10-year data retention. Rated for 100k writes per memory block
- Encased in 2.1mm by 15mm bioglass with non-toxic epoxy
- Pre-tested and pre-loaded into sterile injection assembly
- No “anti-migration” coating means easy removal/replacement
- Estimated implant lifetime 20+ years
Important regarding reading and writing data to the implant
The xSIID implant comes pre-loaded inside a factory-sterilized injector system with a steel needle. It is not possible to activate and program the implant while it is inside the injector needle. All implants are tested for quality and function before they are loaded into the injector assembly and sterilized.
The xSIID has a data memory capacity of 1912 bytes. However, the I2C chip memory is split into two data memory sectors, which means that with the current standard NFC-writer apps it is not possible to write to the entire user memory in one go. We recommend using NFC Tools to program the xSIID, which enables writing of datasets up to about 1kB, and hope that future updates of NFC Tools, TagWriter and other similar apps will allow for writing to both memory sections.
What about MRIs?
There is typically a blurring of the MRI image around the area of the tag, however the tag itself does not heat up or explode or get “ripped out”.
The MythBusters researched this in season 5, episode 19 (MythBusters Revolution) 14 by installing a 134KHz VeriChip transponder into both a piece of a pig and Kari Byron, and running them both through an MRI scan. It clearly shows the image distortion if you're interested in viewing the effect yourself.
Here is a PubMed article on RFID transponder compatibility with MRI machines up to 3T; http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23763334 275 – Functionality of veterinary identification microchips following low-field (0.5 tesla) and high-field (3 tesla) magnetic resonance imaging.
Sentero with the xSIID!
You can choose to use Sentero in combination with the xSIID implant to enhance your cyborg experience. By implanting the programmable NFC chip near your Sentero you will receive these extra features:
- LIGHT UNDER THE SKIN
When the Nest is sensed, the implant lights up under your skin if it is within activation distance.
- PHONE SOCIAL LINK
To close the loop, when a Nest is sensed, by tapping on your xSIID implant with your smartphone you can trigger an app or web-link that links to the person or place we are sensing. Send them a message, call them, open a picture of you together or post something on their social media.
Where and how are xSIID implants installed?
The xSIID can be placed in any of a multitude of locations in the body depending on the intended use and purpose. If the implant is to be used for access-type functions, the standard placement would be in the soft tissue between the thumb and forefinger which allow for the convenient swiping of door readers and similar. If the implantation is mostly for aesthetic purposes, a multitude of implantation spots are possible including the lower arm or below the collarbone – a function of the desired method and device used to activate the implant. In general, locations with nerve bundles, blood vessels or insufficient soft tissue embedding should be avoided.
Achieving safe installation requires a steady hand and experience performing aseptic procedures. At Steve Haworth Modified LLC, we can complete the installation of this product. Appointments can be set by emailing stevehaworthmod@gmail.com
